Bonnie Jacques has worked in the field of early childhood education for the past 20 years, including 15 years as Director and Lead Teacher for Gingerbread House in Ann Arbor.   She started with our Co-op in 2003.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and has taken additional course work in Elementary Education at Eastern Michigan University.  She is a member of the national Association of Education for Young Children.

Ms. Bonnie's underlying philosophy is that children should come away with a positive first-time school experience.  Confidence and self-esteem develop when children feel safe physically, emotionally, and socially.

"Children bring a natural excitement and curiosity to the classroom," says Ms. Bonnie, who believes that teachers of young children have a responsibility to assist them in exploring their world.  Because children learn through auditory, visual, and tactile stimulation and practice, the learning centers and activities in her classroom are designed to meet different learning styles.

"Teaching young children is an exciting, stimulating, and personally satisfying career," says Ms. Bonnie, who emphasizes the importance of being available to parents.

Bonnie, a graduate of Saline Area Schools, and her husband Ted have three grown children, Brandon, Aimee, and Cory.
